About Me

A builder, a teacher, and a lifelong student.

Appau-Siaw Richmond Yeboah is a multi-disciplinary engineer whose work spans robotics, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. Over nearly a decade he has designed autonomous systems, built safety-critical hardware, and shipped products that operate in demanding real-world conditions.

In parallel with his engineering practice, Richmond has become one of the most active STEM educators in his region — coaching championship robotics teams, developing curricula, and mentoring hundreds of students who have gone on to pursue careers in technology.

Research

Where I'm pushing the frontier

Active research interests spanning autonomous systems, edge intelligence, and education.

Multimodal Sensor Electronics & Embedded Systems

Multimodal Sensor Electronics & Embedded Systems

I design embedded sensor nodes that combine multiple sensors, voltage, current, temperature, humidity, and light, on a single low-power controller. Working with platforms like the ESP32 and Raspberry Pi, I focus on multimodal sensor integration, low-power embedded design, and real-time data acquisition. My current work applies this to environment-aware sensing of solar energy generation, linking real-world conditions to system performance.

AI-Enabled Environmental & Agricultural Sensing

AI-Enabled Environmental & Agricultural Sensing

I apply artificial intelligence and computer vision to environmental and agricultural challenges. My work includes an AI-powered aerial imaging pipeline (Lenz) that uses computer vision to detect crop disease early, cutting chemical use and giving farmers free crop-health insights, as well as sensor-based study of how environmental conditions affect the growth of short-cycle crops. My focus is responsible, low-cost AI that can actually be deployed in resource-constrained farming communities.

IoT Systems & Wireless Sensor Networks

IoT Systems & Wireless Sensor Networks

I build connected systems that sense, communicate, and respond in real time. This includes an AI- and IoT-based smart energy meter that monitors power use to reduce electricity waste, overload, and theft, along with cloud and IoT dashboards for remote monitoring and control. I work across wireless communication technologies, WiFi, Bluetooth, GSM, and LoRa, to design networks that stay reliable even in low-resource settings.

Autonomous Robotic Systems (UAV, Land & Water)

Autonomous Robotic Systems (UAV, Land & Water)

I design autonomous robots that navigate and operate on their own across air, land, and water. My work includes autonomous drones built on the PX4 and ArduPilot flight stacks with Pixhawk controllers, handling GPS waypoint navigation, autonomous takeoff and landing, and onboard decision-making, from delivery drones like RAVen to precision-agriculture drones. I focus on the control, navigation, and embedded intelligence that let these systems work reliably in the real world.

Teaching & Coaching

Building the next generation of engineers

Teaching

I teach by building. Every concept is anchored to something a student can touch, break, and fix. My classrooms prioritize hands-on projects, peer collaboration, and the kind of productive struggle that turns curiosity into competence — regardless of the resources available.

A championship track record

Beyond the classroom, I mentor students one-on-one — helping them build portfolios, land internships, and find their footing in engineering careers. Several have gone on to work in robotics labs, tech companies, and universities.
